Summer Sunday: the Mine Cathedral & Mosque
The Fatih Mosque is the 2nd largest in our country. While you enjoy the beautiful interior, the guide tells all about the history, traditions, celebrations, … in Islam.
The term “mine cathedral” refers to the large and richly decorated churches that the various mining companies in the Limburg Kempen region had built in their working-class neighborhoods. The mine cathedral, also called St. Theodardus Church, is undoubtedly one of the most monumental in Limburg. The church was built between 1939 and 1943 in Byzantine style, under the direction of architect Henri Lacoste. Be sure to note its beautiful courtyard and stained glass windows!
